My Favorite Syrah for The Holidays

New Vintage – Market Favorite

2015 Alban Vineyards Patrina Syrah

$49.00/Bottle

Moving to the 2015 reds, the 2015 Patrina shows beautifully from barrel and even better from bottle, which is always a good sign. There’s not much of it, but it’s a magnificent Syrah loaded with notions of cassis, blackberries olive tapenade, and ground pepper. Possessing awesome purity of fuit, medium to full body, and a great finish, it should be snatched up by savvy readers.

2015 Domaine La Barroche – Chateauneuf du Pape

A Top-Notch Chateauneuf at a reasonable price!

At $50/bottle, Domaine La Barroche is one of the new superstars in the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation. This is due entirely to recent changes in their wine-making and vineyard management techniques. But the truth is, Domaine La Barroche has a  long history in the Southern Rhone Valley as they are one of the older properties in the Chateauneuf du Pape!

2017 Montsecano Refugio Pinot Noir

The Casablanca Valley in Chile is a place that is still shrouded in mystery to the American wine drinker. For a country that is known for its dark/brooding reds (Cabernet and Syrah), some of the best values can be found in the coastal areas that are more known for their aromatic Whites and Pinot Noir.

At 33 degrees South, the Casablanca Valley is the much closer to the equator that every other major Pinot Noir growing region in the world. The Valley is oriented East-West and sucks in cool air from the ocean and the arctic ocean currents. This makes the perfect conditions for growing Pinot Noir.

$22/bottle

(Oct 31, 2018)

2014 Altos Las Hormigas, Reserve Malbec: 93 Points Robert Parker

2014 Altos Las Hormigas, Reserve Malbec on sale by the bottle or 6 pack. Call the store for pricing. Reserve your bottles now.

Luis Gutiérrez wrote: “There is quite a jump in price for the 2014 Malbec Reserve. Here the grapes are grown on chalky soils with round stones in Altamira, Gualtallary and a touch of Vista Flores (that they are not using anymore) that fermented with indigenous yeasts and without any acid correction. The wine was aged in untoasted 3,500-liter oak foudres for 16 months. There is also a jump in quality, a serious wine where the minerality and freshness rule. This wine will please more advanced drinkers, with its subtle minerality, its balance and tasty, almost salty finish. This is a sleek, fine and elegant representation of the limestone soils of the Valle de Uco.”
